Program Professional Framework
نظم المعلومات الجغرافية – Geographic Information System (GIS)
Program Overview
Geographic information systems allow municipalities, utilities, oil and gas operators and planning authorities to manage assets and make decisions based on location. This course provides practical GIS skills: coordinate reference systems such as WGS 84 and UTM, vector and raster data, creating and editing spatial data, geodatabase design, spatial analysis including buffering, overlay and network analysis, working with satellite imagery and GPS data, and producing clear maps and web dashboards. Exercises use ArcGIS Pro and QGIS with examples such as mapping utility networks, site selection and urban planning in Gulf cities.
Learning Outcomes
- ✓Select and apply appropriate coordinate reference systems and project data correctly.
- ✓Create, edit and validate vector data for assets such as pipelines, roads or buildings.
- ✓Design a geodatabase with domains and attributes for an organization's spatial assets.
- ✓Perform spatial analysis using buffers, overlays and network analysis to answer a planning question.
- ✓Integrate GPS, satellite imagery and tabular data into a GIS project.
- ✓Produce a professional map layout and a web map or dashboard for decision makers.

Training Methodology
Applied Project & Assessment
Applied Project
Participants complete a GIS project for a real or case problem such as utility asset mapping or site selection: data collection and projection, geodatabase design, spatial analysis and a final map and web dashboard with findings.
Assessment
Short diagnostic at the start, practical tasks linked to each learning outcome, and evaluation of the applied project against published criteria.
