Integration of Rocks, Log & Test Data

Core, logs and well tests each measure reservoir properties at different scales and under different conditions, and they rarely agree without careful integration. This course shows how to reconcile them into one consistent reservoir description: core-to-log depth matching and calibration, building a petrophysical model of porosity, saturation and permeability, rock typing, formation tester pressure gradients and fluid contacts, well test permeability and skin, and upscaling across measurement scales. Participants work through an integrated dataset from a Gulf carbonate reservoir, resolving conflicts between data sources and delivering properties ready for static and dynamic models.

Integration of Rocks, Log & Test Data

Program Overview

Core, logs and well tests each measure reservoir properties at different scales and under different conditions, and they rarely agree without careful integration. This course shows how to reconcile them into one consistent reservoir description: core-to-log depth matching and calibration, building a petrophysical model of porosity, saturation and permeability, rock typing, formation tester pressure gradients and fluid contacts, well test permeability and skin, and upscaling across measurement scales. Participants work through an integrated dataset from a Gulf carbonate reservoir, resolving conflicts between data sources and delivering properties ready for static and dynamic models.

Learning Outcomes

  • ✓Depth-match core data to logs and calibrate log-derived porosity and lithology.
  • ✓Build a petrophysical model for porosity, water saturation and permeability calibrated to core.
  • ✓Interpret formation tester pressure gradients to define fluid contacts and compartments.
  • ✓Compare core, log and well test permeability and explain differences caused by scale and heterogeneity.
  • ✓Define rock types that are consistent across core, log and dynamic data.
  • ✓Deliver an integrated property set with documented uncertainties for reservoir modelling.

Applied Project & Assessment

Applied Project

Participants integrate a provided core, log, formation tester and well test dataset from a Gulf carbonate well, reconcile conflicting permeability and contact estimates, and deliver a consistent property set and rock type scheme with stated uncertainties.

Assessment

Short diagnostic at the start, practical tasks linked to each learning outcome, and evaluation of the applied project against published criteria.
