Program Professional Framework
Directional, Horizontal and Multilateral Drilling
Program Overview
Directional and horizontal wells are standard in Gulf fields, where thin carbonate layers, offshore platforms and artificial islands demand precise trajectories and maximum reservoir contact. This course covers well trajectory design, survey calculations with the minimum curvature method, survey uncertainty and anti-collision management, BHA design with motors and rotary steerable systems, torque, drag and hydraulics in high-angle wells, geosteering in thin reservoirs, and multilateral junction design using the TAML classification. Participants plan trajectories and BHAs and learn to manage risks from kick-off to the lateral.

Training Methodology
Applied Project & Assessment
Applied Project
Participants plan a horizontal or dual-lateral well for a provided Gulf carbonate target, delivering the trajectory and survey programme, an anti-collision check, BHA proposals by section, a torque and drag summary and a junction recommendation where applicable.
Assessment
Short diagnostic at the start, practical tasks linked to each learning outcome, and evaluation of the applied project against published criteria.
