Program Professional Framework
Radiographic Testing Level-II Training and Certification SNT-TC-1A
Program Overview
At Level II the radiographer moves from performing exposures to setting up techniques, interpreting images and accepting or rejecting work against codes. This programme develops those skills: exposure calculation for varied thicknesses and geometries, technique selection for pipe and plate welds, film and digital image interpretation, discontinuity recognition, and evaluation against widely used acceptance criteria such as ASME Section V and VIII, ASME B31.3, API 1104 and AWS D1.1. It also covers writing technique sheets and guiding Level I staff on Gulf oil, gas and construction projects.
Learning Outcomes
- ✓Calculate exposure time and geometric unsharpness for a given source, thickness and source-to-film distance.
- ✓Select the appropriate technique and IQI for a weld configuration and justify it against the governing code.
- ✓Interpret radiographs to identify porosity, slag, lack of fusion, incomplete penetration and cracks.
- ✓Evaluate indications against acceptance criteria in ASME B31.3, API 1104 or AWS D1.1 and record the decision.
- ✓Write a radiographic technique sheet and instructions that a Level I technician can follow.
- ✓Review digital radiography images for adequate sensitivity, resolution and signal-to-noise ratio.

Training Methodology
Applied Project & Assessment
Applied Project
Participants interpret a set of weld radiographs, record every indication with its classification and code-based decision, and prepare a technique sheet for a new pipe diameter and wall thickness including exposure calculation and IQI selection.
Assessment
Short diagnostic at the start, practical tasks linked to each learning outcome, and evaluation of the applied project against published criteria.
